Amstar Express was established in 1982 by Douglas MacDonald at the age of 23.
Doug is a street rider and track racer who wanted to make a living by doing what he enjoyed most... Riding motorcycles!

Donning full race leathers, helmet, boots and gloves, Doug became a motorcycle courier on his 1975 Yamaha RD250 and 1969 Harley Davidson motorcycles and quickly earned the respect of travel agencies who needed a reliable way to get travel tickets to clients promptly.
Quickly realizing the benefits motorcycles had in heavy traffic, he opened Valley Cycle Couriers which became the first motorcycle courier and messenger service in the San Fernando Valley. Doug handled marketing by handing out flyers in between deliveries. Orders were handwritten in a notebook and billing on a manual typewriter by friends and relatives. Communications were by pager, and vehicle maintenance by ...well ..Doug.
In a short time, the demand for fast motorcycle deliveries increased and Doug hired more riders using his extensive race track and street motorcycling experience to choose the best and safest riders available. Later, as the demand for deliveries of larger and/or fragile items increased, he added cars and trucks to the fleet and changed the name to California Motor Couriers.
Doug continued as a motorcycle courier for more than 12 years after opening Amstar Express and personally completed literally thousands of deliveries in virtually every conceivable situation on a motorcycle!
With all of that hands-on experience, Mr. MacDonald learned the importance of on-time delivery and the critical problems that a missed deadline could create. Then, as now, he knew many of his clients on a first-name basis and to him, they were more than just a name on a delivery slip.
Doug was always up to the challenge and determined to never let his clients down.
Doug witnessed first hand the stress his clients were under when he came by to pick up their important packages and court filings. To Doug, there was no better feeling than to hear the relief in his clients' voices when he called to let them know that their delivery was completed on time!
Today, Amstar Express replaces the old California Motor Couriers name due to Mr. MacDonald's life-long patriotism and the continued expansion of services offered by Amstar Express. Things have changed in many ways at Amstar Express in the last 25 years. We are now a full service messenger, courier and attorney support service with most services available 24 hours a day. 365 days a year.

We have the experience to handle the delivery needs of virtually any type of business or private party. Our fleet includes trucks and vans for large items or multiple parcels, cars for delivering smaller items up to a few boxes, and of course motorcycles for those last minute contingencies. Our order taking, dispatching and billing systems are fully computerized and can be customized to fit your needs. All of our drivers and riders are 'employees' of Amstar Express and uniformed, two-way equipped, professionally trained and fully insured.
Mr. MacDonald has watched Amstar Express grow through the years but has never forgotten the great feeling of a job well done.

About Doug
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Mr. MacDonald is the founder and CEO of AmStar Express. Doug has been personally involved in the transportation industry for over 30 years. Before founding AmStar Express, he worked as a motorcycle courier in various industries for 5 years, then another 12 years opening after opening AmStar Express before finally settling down to more internal duties. Naturally, Doug has considerable experience with every conceivable type of delivery and filing situation..
